Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in New Delhi celebrated the 96 ^th anniversary of the country’s independence on November 5, 2015.

The independence anniversary took place at the Afghan Ambassador’s residence which was attended by some 1500 guests from the host country’s government authorities, the diplomatic community, media, private sector, think- tanks, and the civil society.

The Indian Honorable Foreign Secretary, H.E. Dr. S. Jaishankar participated as the Chief Guest of the evening.

The national anthems of the two countries were followed by cultural functions.  Music was performed throughout the evening by Salaam forum. The national dance, Atan , was performed by a group of Afghan students in India and Chob - Bazi by a group of Afghan Sikhs.

The cultural part of the evening also included a photo and art exhibition displaying pictures of Afghanistan and paintings by Afghan artists.

A stall of Afghan handicrafts showcasing the country’s authentic carpets and rugs as well as traditional dresses added to the glitter of this evening.

The Afghan embassy hosted a dinner which served a variety of Afghan dishes and delicacies.
