Rohtak: - On July 27, 2014, Deputy Chief of Mission M. Ashraf Haidari was invited as a Guest of Honor to participate in an International Interdisciplinary Conference on “Contemporary Issues in Commerce, Management, Computer Applications and Social Sciences,” co-organized by International Association of Academicians and Researchers (INAAR) and Gaur Brahman College in Rohtak, Haryana. In his remarks, Mr. Haidari discussed Afghanistan’s business and investment environment, while encouraging and inviting Indian businesses to make the first move and invest in the country’s many “virgin markets,” including: healthcare; minerals; agriculture and agribusiness; infrastructure; energy and minerals; transportation and logistics; banking; textiles; renewable energy; cement industry; telecommunications; entertainment; and services.
Mr. Haidari welcomed the commitment by the new government of India to revitalization of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), which he noted squarely depends on the long-term stabilization of Afghanistan. He pointed out that whoever becomes Afghanistan’s next president, regional economic cooperation and integration would remain one of the country’s core foreign policy objectives. However, in order for the region to focus on exploiting its vast human and natural resources for the benefit of every nation, the key countries of the region should overcome their political differences, Mr. Haidari noted. Moreover, he dismissed perceptions of widespread insecurity in Afghanistan, and noted that over 100 Indian businesses were already operating in the country. He encouraged Indian investors to go and see the situation for themselves, and avoid buying into sensational media reporting.
Mr. Haidari participated along with other speakers in a number of inaugural events, including launching of new publications and establishing INAAR’s local chapter in Rohtak.
