Mr. M. Ashraf Haidari Office of the D.C.M.

New Delhi: - On February 12, 2014, Deputy Chief of Mission M. Ashraf Haidari joined the Ambassadors of Central Asian states, neighboring Afghanistan, a number of senior Indian government officials, and members of the business and cultural communities to attend a major cultural event hosted by the Embassy of Tajikistan in New Delhi. Following remarks by Tajik Ambassador to India Saidbeg Saidov and Tajik artists and cultural personalities, Mr. Haidari was given the stage to speak to a large audience about Afghan-Tajik cultural ties in a regional context. Speaking in Dari and English, he noted the special relationship Afghanistan shares with Tajikistan and India and welcomed the growing ties among the three countries, each seeking to boost regional economic cooperation.

“Our relationship with Tajikistan and India is special in many ways. With both countries, we have shared security and development interests, as reflected in the frequent visits of President Karzai to both countries,” said Mr. Haidari. He also shared with the audience his personal experience having worked with the UNHCR in early 1990s, assisting Tajik refugees in northern Afghanistan. At the time, a civil war in Tajikistan had driven more than one hundred thousand Tajik civilians outside their country. “Since early 1990s, Tajikistan has come a long way, and I encourage the business community to explore the virgin markets of Tajikistan and Afghanistan,” Mr. Haidari added. He also encouraged Indian tourists to visit the two countries with Kashmir-like natural beauty, while enjoying the warm hospitality of Tajiks and Afghans, which remains unrivaled in the world.
